SEAN PAUL CONCERT October 11, 2002:::: |
ADONAI/SUPERGOLD
BASH August 24, 2002::::![]() |
|
| This Nyam Cash promotion was pure niceness as usual, and Supergold and Adonai were playing good until, as soon as the dance got hot and the vibes were flowing....., a bottle fight broke out that got out of hand...the turntable coffin was turned over on its side, people rushed out of the dance and eventually babylon arrived..the dance ended around 430am. Unfortunately, this was not a peaceful dance...and 2 idiots decided to f*ck it up for everybody... Anyways, Tasha, we hope you had a Happy Birthday despite the drama. Maybe it was the full moon, or maybe those two were just too full of themselves....Post your comments/reviews on the dancehall board | |

JAMAICA INDEPENDENCE BASH August 03, 2002:::: The rain and floods earlier in the day couldn't stop the die-hard dancehall fans from coming to the Jamaica Independence Bash, by Nyam Cash Promotions. Though it wasn't exactly packed, there were enough people to cover all four walls of the dancehall and to build a vibes. Mikie Faith warmed the crowd with some conscious tunes, then Champion Int'l played for about an hour... the set started off slow, but eventually picked up when selector Breezy moved into the jugglin' segment, featuring the online, hard drive, engine, diwali, nine-night, and pre-release baby cham tunes, followed by some hip-hop. But no doubt about it, Bigga Boss took control of the dance bringing back nothing but hits by Dennis Brown, Jr Reid, Barrington Levy, Ini Kamoze, and the rarely featured: EEK A MOUSE. Bigga Boss woke the crowd and lighters were flashing, getting forwards for almost every song he played.. gwaan BIGGA! The dance fizzled out after 5am... GEORGE CLINTON AND THE UNITED WE FUNK ALL-STARS June 23, 2002:::: Kicking off the summer was the World Beat Promotions "Old School Party 2002" featuring George Clinton, the man who invented funk music. Also featured were the Barkays, Cherelle, SOS, and the Dazz Band. Starting things off early in the day were excellent performances by local bands such as Project 1 and talented reggae singer Robert Minott. In between acts, music was provided by Sugar Notch Sound System, usually a reggae sound, they displayed their versatility to the mostly funk-lovers crowd. George Clinton gave one of his best performances, the crowd came out of their seats and blankets on the hill, and swarmed the stage. The successful event took place at Tom Bass Pavilion, located near the intersection of Beltway 8 and HWY 288..this venue was perfect for the concert, a hill for general admission, assigned seating towards the stage, and excellent lighting. Look out for more events at this location. |

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND May 23-25, 2002 :::: This weekend was full of entertainment. Nyam Cash Promotions and Beenie Man started things off early on Thursday, the 23rd when he and the Shocking Vibes Crew made an appearance at Bongo's downtown for autograph signings and picture taking. The crowd was nice and everyone was excited for the concert on Friday, the 24th. The concert took place at Royal Hall. Progressive Flex from Miami and 1-800-Bunji warmed up the crowd. It was refreshing to hear the out of town sound play. They had the girls swarming to the middle of the hall, showing off the latest dances, the log-on, the online, and the wave. Blacka Dave and Tony Weed came next and played hip-hop. Everyone was ready for the show to begin but it didn't start until 3:00am. The crowd was tired, but hung in there to see the Dr. himself. The Ruff Kut band is the wickedest band and backed the show. Future Troubles took the stage first and performed his hits like Hi-Ya-Hi-Ya-Hoo , and gave away some t-shirts and pictures. Next came, Delly Ranks with hits like Headache and Miss Call Me Too Often. Emcee Naptali introduced Mr. Easy, and he sang Murder on the Bruk Out,, and Drive Me Crazy on the Buy Out. He also did a tribute Dennis Brown. Next was Kirk Davis (aka Little Kirk), he announced that he is no longer Little Kirk, and is know known as Kirk Davis. He performed a tribute Dennis Brown "Should I" and sang his old time hits and a new tune. Assassin took the stage briefly and performed To Make Money, How We Roll, and Roughest on the Diwali. Silver Cat came next and performed Fowl Affair, and a tribute to Bob Marley "Who the Cap Fit". Beenie Man finally touched the stage around 4:15am.. the crowd woke up. He started things off with "I'm a bad Man", Circumstances, Memories and he did a duo with Silver Cat "Chronic". He entertained the crowd with the latest dances and performed a new song against bin Laden. He continued to sing "Bookshelf" "Let Him Go" "Toy Friend" "Miss LAP" ... and got on top of the speakers and danced some more. DAY AFTER - May

On Saturday, the party continued in the daytime at Island Resort Restaurant. Music was provided by Public Enemy Soundsystem and Mikie Faith. It was a day of fun for all ages. Inside was the dominoe tournament, outside was the bounce-a-bout for the kids, and the sound was playing nice. The party continued until babylon turned off the sound promptly at 10pm. Pure niceness anyhow. The party migrated to Majestic Hall where Gregory Isaacs was slated to perform. Sugar Notch and Supergold sounds entertained the crowd for this One Man Against the World promotion. Johnny Osbourne performed, backed by a live band. I didn't go to the show, but I know that Gregory was a no-show. I called the promoter Goldteeth, and asked what to tell the people..he said to let you all know that he is "deeply sorry and to save your ticket stubs for half-off when Gregory is rescheduled for Houston." APRIL 27, 2002 - LADIES 45 CLASH :::: Gunz and Rozez took the trophy back to Canada last nite. 360 from NY, Gunz and Rozez from Canada, and Lady Love from NY participated in the first Ladies 45 Clash last nite at Reception Hall in Houston,TX. Susie Enemy from Public Enemy did a wicked set in the early warm. Each sound drew numbers to see what order they would play. Fatta Carey was the host and Dancehall regular "Laverne" aka Harvey's was the co-host. She was hilarious in her drunken stupor. Each sound played 30 mins in the first round. 360 was up first, Lady Treasure and Sawny Killa started with some foundation tunes..the intro was powerful (Peter Tosh - Creation) but too long.. 1st 30 min set was okay. Treasure was saying that Houston is their territory and they set the pace for females sounds in Houston, and that the other sounds kept calling out their name, and they were gonna win the clash. Next came Lady Love with Tanya and Warika..the emcee Tanya brought the dance to the next level, she made it look easy and started off the round by saying Houston was tired of hearing 360, and said they never called out 360 name cuz they didn't even know who the "f*ck" they were..etc..... she's one of the best emcee's I've seen and the selector was picking out the right tunes, badman and ganja tunes and played the martial arts Karate, Bombing, and the Mad Sex riddim, it was the emcee skills that made the crowd get excited. The crowd was impressed. Next came Gunz and Rozez with selector Tasha and Chantay, the emcee.. the emcee's voice was very high-pitched, and it was hard to understand what she was saying, but it was the selector who was their saving grace. Lady Love was in the lead after the first round. Second round was 15mins each. 360 tried to come back, playing some hip hop, and said that if Lady Love was trying to kick them with Karati, then they had the original style..and played hiya hiya hoo!..., and started to diss Lady Love looks, but the crowd wasn't feeling it at all. The crowd was waiting for Lady Love, when they came back, they mentioned how 360 bought their own ads in newspapers to hype themselves, but that Lady Love doesnt have to do that cuz people buy things for them and they dont have to pay to promote themselves,...etc..and said like how 360 was bigging up Spragga and Bounty Killer, that 360 f*cked them off...and killed them with the "skettel bomb" tune. The crowd was cheering. They had a good second round and someone in the audience even took the trophy from the stage and gave it to the emcee...Next came Gunz and Rozez.. Tasha did the emcee'ing and they played some remixes, a good 2nd round, they were remained heavy contenders in the clash. But the crowd was still in favor for Lady Love. Next was elimination time, and 360 was quickly outed, then it was straight 1 for 1. They played 10 songs 1 for 1. It was here that the tables turned. Everyone thought that Lady Love was going to win it, but G & R knew what to draw for.. Lady Love was saying that they've been in the sound business for years and years and G & R said they should be ashamed of themselves since they've only been around for a year, and that they were going to take the trophy, and they did. Lady Love played "Trouble Again" - King Kong, and "Burial" - Peter Tosh. G&R played "Tempo" - Anthony Red Rose, "Double-Trouble" and "What One Dance Can Do" - Beres Hammond. Lady Love tried to counteract them with "Redemption Song" - Bob Marley, but the crowd didn't respond. Gunz and Rozez heaviest tune was "Conquer Me" - Delroy Wilson, and the dance was done. Post your comments about the dance on the discussion board or read more about Gunz & Rozez here. |

GULF WAR CLASH ::: Let's begin with this, the crowd was less than I expected, probably because Beach Party weekend was going on in Galveston. One note to the soundclash newbie's that did attend: Don't expect to dance your ass off and bruck out at a soundclash.. if you think the 'dj's' were 'talking too much'.. it's because it's a clash, and they have to intro the dubplates with a big speech to kill the next selector, if you listen to what they're saying..you'll find it entertaining. I say this because a lot of people were leaving the clash because they were complaining about the talking because they wanted to dance..well, this was a CLASH! Fatta Carey was the emcee for this Nyam Cash event. Supergold and Sugarnotch Sounds were both set up in the hall. Links and Poison Dart were there ready to defend, and if you wanted a war, you got it that night. The dubs were impressive. Stay tuned for the detailed report, some say that the crowd was biased..and tunes were played back...I want to hear the cassette again before I report on it, but I'll say this, the trophy was crushed at the end of the night, and bottles were thrown! cRaZy! Post your comments/reviews on the clash on the discussion board. |

| If you missed the Beres Hammond concert, you missed another great Nyam Cash promotion! The Majestic Hall was packed from wall to wall and the sound was excellent. Goldfinger warmed up the crowd with nice old-time favorites, and John Paul and Kool D of Sugarnotch Sound followed. Supergold featured some of his new dubs then Fatta Carey and Tony Weed of Mikie Faith juggled some of the latest tunes. Next, was the stage show..new artist Alana performed with the Project One band,then came an artist named Turbulence, then came KC White, he performed songs he wrote, like "No No No", "First Cut is the Deepest", and "Throw Mi Corn." Beres's son took the stage backed by the Harmony House Band and he was WICKED! His messages were strong and had the stylings of the original Sizzla back in the day... Next came Bere's back up singers, the three young ladies were amazing and put on a professional show. They sounded like the I-Three's. Beres came next and tore the house down, hit after hit, the crowd was singing along to every song and there was never a dull moment. He performed songs like Double Trouble, Tempted to Touch, Falling In Love, Queen & Lady, They Gonna Talk, and of course Rockaway.
