This night was amazing. It was billed as the 30th Anniversary Tour for Beres Hammond, but it turned out to be more than that. It was a night of all nights. This show was truly special and will never be forgotten by many if not all in attendance. There is just too much to tell. The show started promptly at midnight, backed by the Harmony House Band. The first act was an artist from Beres's own Harmony House label, Ginja. He is a good talent and really set the vibes up for the night. Next up was the Harmony House back up singers. They displayed their harmonizing skills and sang Rita Marley's "I Want to Get High" as well as their own songs. The show really started to take form as Wailing Souls made there appearance. This was their first time performing in Houston. They performed classic tunes which included the timeless, "Things In Time", "Firehouse Rock", and "Shark Attack." Next was an intermission and Mikie Faith played some tunes for the massive. Oddly, they played hip hop and hardcore dancehall, which didn't satisfy a majority of the elders in the crowd, who probably would have enjoyed foundation and classic reggae tunes instead, but the younger crowd enjoyed signaling the plane and rowing the boat. Next , it was time to change channels and prepare for the Queen, Marcia Griffiths, an original member of the I-Threes. She came out in her African attire. She rocked the crowd. She bussed a piece of Eek- A- Mouse's "Wah Do Dem" anthem. She sang hits like "Fire Burning", "Closer to You", and "I Shall Sing". She just had a vibe and she was beautiful. She did a nice song in which she did a duet with her son who was one of her back up singers. The tune was "All My Love." She ended her show wishing blessings to all in attendance. Next, it was time for Beres Hammond. He truly has lasted the test of time. He kept the vibes solid his whole set and he performed for nearly an hour and half. He came out singin the timeless "One Dance" and then went right into "She Loves Me Now". If I ran a list of all the tunes he did, it would be as long as this review. He sang "Tempted To Touch", "Can't Stop a Man", "Sweetness", "Can You Play Some More" and "Rock Away" just to name a few. Beres was almost too good for words. He even covered a Dennis Brown and Garnett Silk tune to pay homage to some of the reggae greats that have gone before us. The crowd really received that well. Everybody in attendance sang every tune and danced and jumped . Truly a great vibe and legendary event for the Houston massive. I have to acknowledge the Harmony House band as well. They wrecked the place with the musical vibes they brought. A little dancehall style, a little roots style, a little lover's style, and even a little dub style, they were tremendous. In all my years in going to shows and events, this one really had a sense of the crowd being an actual part of the show. The crowd was energetic to say the least. Big up the reggaelink and Houston massive for a tremendous showing and being part of what made the whole night worth it. It was really nice to see such a diverse audience as well. The more people reggae reaches, the more powerful it becomes. Big up to the Sugar Notch and the Mikie Faith crew for leveling the vibes before and during the show. Big up Nyam Cash promotion and 3D Entertainment for putting on this amazing show. Bless up all Houston crew! Post your comments on the dancehall board! or View Pictures |
The Houston massive has ever seen a weekend like this, Beres and crew on Friday, then Sanchez and crew on Saturday. This weekend will go down in Houston reggae history. The Sanchez show was well packed and filled up to the brim. The Reggae Summer Frenzy Tour featured Sanchez as well as veteran artists Tinga Stewart and Flourgon. Early warm juggling was provided Peacemaker, Steve Swift, SuperGold, and SupaNeil. They had some nice vibes and set a nice pace for the night. Slowly but surely, the people piled in and held their corners in the Reception Hall. Soon, the show began and the Chronic Band took their place on stage. Bigga Boss hosted the event and he introduced Pluggy Terrible. He featured two tunes and was followed by Flourgon. Flourgon ran through some of his tunes like Fresh and did a nice version of Goodhole College which got the ladies going crazy. Tinga Stewart was up next. He sang some nice tunes for the ladies. He is billed as Jamaica's Percy Sledge so, of course the ladies were his main ambition. He sang classic tunes like "Cover Me", which is originally a combination tune with the legendary Ninja Man, as well as nice covers of some old reggae classics like John Holt's "A Love I Can Feel" and Richie Stephens' "Trying to Get Close to You". Then it was time for the main attraction. Sanchez came and lit up the stage and wrecked the place. He had the ladies eating out of his hand. He came on stage singing "Here I Am" and from there, he ran a chain of back to back to back to back hits. Some of the highlights were tunes like Frenzy, Chemistry, Loneliness, Praise Him, Never Dis the Man, Give it a Chance as well as many others. Towards the end of his set, he proudly sang the Jamaican national anthem. Flourgon joined Sanchez on stage towards the end and they sang a classic combination tune named "Love Mi Girl Bad" and a brief but sweet gospel melody. It was nice. Sanchez said goodnite, but not before a brief encore. The crowd called him back and he sang "One Love" then made his final exit. All in all, it was back to back nights that were full of vibes in Houston. The Houston massive is starting to make it's presence known as a staple stop for such legendary acts as Sanchez and Beres. Big up SuperGold for promoting this successful event. Big up the reggaelink and Houston crew for representin'. To all Houston crew, Bless Up!
